What makes a great proxy?

What makes a great proxy?

Proxies are very popular for the services they provide, but what differentiates them and makes a proxy a great proxy? Besides it's usability, undoubtedly it's speed. When you are browsing through a web proxy, your request passes through a third server, the one that hosts the proxy. A proxy site will benefit from a good proxy host where the servers are set to handle the extra demands placed on them (See dualrackmonsterproxy and xproxyhost). Many hosting companies will not accept proxies on their shared services. Therefore, if your proxy continually provides slow speeds it could be time to switch! Usability is more difficult to measure as it relies on personal preferences. The continual opening of ads can be tolerated by some but very annoying to others. Though, we at popfreeproxies would not accept proxies with any full-page pop-ups. Proxy owners may need to configure their sites to run some web sites such as YouTube. Note, these changes are not always made! Finally, if you are passing sensitive data we advice using a proxy with SSL encryption.

Technical attributes of a proxy site:
- Data passes through an encrypted connection (SSL)
- Displays the secure sign in the URL box  (HTTPS: connections)
- Hides your client IP providing an anonymous connection
- Offers configurable settings (Cookies, Javascript, Objects)
- Display of ads to fund the site.
- Type of proxy ie Glype.
- Hosting services.
- Privacy Policy
- Term of use
